One Bird, One Meal: Our Commitment to The Country Food Trust
At She Shoots Collective, we believe a game day shouldn’t end with the final drive.
As shooters, we have a responsibility to think about where our quarry goes afterwards, to respect what we shoot and to recognise game for what it is: a valuable, sustainable source of food.
After recently speaking with The Country Food Trust, I learnt that it costs approximately £2.20 to turn each donated bird into a nutritious meal for someone in need.
That conversation made me think about the game days we organise through She Shoots and how we could make a genuine, measurable difference.
So, we’re introducing a new commitment.
One Bird Shot. One Meal Funded.
Going forward, for every game day sold through She Shoots Collective, we will add £2.20 for every bird to the cost of the day.
That money will be donated to The Country Food Trust to support its work turning game into meals for food banks and people experiencing food insecurity.
The idea is incredibly simple:
For every bird in the bag, we’ll fund the cost of turning a bird into a meal.
It means that giving back isn’t an optional extra at the end of one of our days. It’s built into the cost of taking part from the very beginning.
What Does That Look Like?
Take our Williamstrip Ladies’ Driven Day as an example.
It’s a 150-bird day with eight guns.
150 birds × £2.20 = £330 donated to The Country Food Trust.
That’s just £41.25 per gun, but collectively it means our day can fund the cost of turning 150 birds into meals.
As we add more driven days to the She Shoots calendar, those numbers have the potential to become really significant.
A 200-bird day could contribute £440.
A 300-bird day could contribute £660.
And across an entire season, we hope that can become thousands of pounds supporting a brilliant cause.
Respecting What We Shoot
For us, this is about more than fundraising.
Shooting is connected to conservation, land management, food production and the rural economy. If we’re going to encourage more women into the sport, we also want to encourage conversations about responsible shooting and what happens to our quarry afterwards.
There is something incredibly important about closing that circle.
A bird shouldn’t simply be seen as a number on a game card. It is food, and ensuring that game enters the food chain and is valued properly should be an important part of modern shooting.
The Country Food Trust helps make that possible by working to transform game into nutritious food for those who need it.
Making Our Days Mean Something More
She Shoots Collective exists to bring women together through shooting and the countryside.
We want our days to be stylish, sociable and great fun. We want beginners to feel welcome, experienced shots to find a brilliant community and women to leave our events having made new friends and memories.
But we also want the Collective to stand for something.
As we grow, we have an opportunity to decide what kind of shooting community we want to build. For us, that means celebrating everything we love about the sport while also recognising the responsibility that comes with it.
This £2.20 commitment is a small addition to the price of a peg, but collectively it can have a much bigger impact.
So when you book a She Shoots game day, you’ll know that your day is contributing to something beyond the field.
